Baby Chick Crochet Pattern With Video Tutorial

I know this is really last minute, but here is a cute chick tutorial to brighten up your Easter. For those of you who don’t already know, I had my baby in the middle of this month and it has been a crazy few weeks! I’m finally feeling up to crocheting again, so here is my impromptu Easter themed pattern. Enjoy!

MATERIALS:

• Medium – 4 worsted weight yarn in yellow for the body and orange for the beak and feet. I used the brand Caron Simply Soft which is a 170 g / 288 meter skein of yarn.

• 4.00 mm crochet hook (Size G)

• 1 pair of 18 mm safety eyes

• Sewing needle large enough to fit your yarn

• Toy stuffing

Check out the Materials page to see the exact materials I use in my patterns/tutorials

TERMS:

• BL DEC: Back Loop Decrease

• BLSC: Back Loop Single Crochet

• CH: Chain

• FL INC: Front Loop Increase

• FO: Finish off

• INC: Increase (Single Crochet 2 in 1 stitch)

• INV DEC: Invisible decrease

• MR: Magic Ring

• RNDS: Rounds

• SC: Single Crochet

• SLST: Slip stitch

• ST: Stitch

First, you will need to complete the standard head and body tutorial (pattern below)

25. (SC 4, INV DEC) x 6 (30)

26. (SC 3, INV DEC) x 6 (24)

27. (SC 2, INV DEC) x 6 (18)

Attach eyes 11 or 13 stitches apart between rows 13 and 14. Refer to the video for more details.

Stuff the head and body

28. (SC 1, INV DEC) x 6 (12)

Sew the bottom shut with your yarn by sewing through the front loop of every stitch and pulling it tight until it closes.

IMPORTANT:  The head is larger than the body.  Make sure you use the larger portion as the head or else the finished piece will look really fat.

2. (SC 1, INC) x 2 (6)

3. (SC 2, INC) x 2 (8)

5. (SC 4, INC) x 2 (12)

FO, don’t stuff the arms

BEAK:

Orange yarn

1. Magic Ring with 4 SC (4)

2. (SC 1, INC) x 2 (6)
